Tones and I – Beautifully Ordinary Tour: Review
Hey ladies! If you’re craving an unforgettable night of music and magic, Tones and I’s Beautifully Ordinary Tour is what you need. I recently attended her first of two shows at the Fremantle Arts Centre, and let me tell you—it was everything. Armed with a poncho and a bit of uncertainty, I stepped out into the windy night, unsure of what to expect. Like many, I knew some of Tones’ hits but wasn’t familiar with her entire collection. So, I asked myself: Would standing in the rain for songs I might not know be worth it?
Spoiler alert—it was worth every second. By the time the show ended, I had become a devoted fan. Tones and I delivered a night of music that captured everyone’s heart, from first-time listeners to die-hard fans.
As I arrived at the venue, I noticed the crowd—a mix of young girls, mothers, and families—braving the weather for a chance to experience something special. When the lights went down, and the show started, I knew we were in for a treat.
Tones and I
The opening tracks, “Figured It Out,” “Cloudy Day,” and “I Get High,” set the stage for an unforgettable night. Tones and her band electrified the crowd, turning the Fremantle Arts Centre into a euphoric sea of movement and energy. Even if you hadn’t heard these songs before, the vibe was impossible to resist. You couldn’t help but get swept up in the excitement. The crowd of 6,000 danced and sang along, fully immersed in the experience. It was clear from the start that this wasn’t just a concert—it was a celebration.
One of the night’s highlights was the performance of “Never Seen the Rain.” Fittingly, light showers fell intermittently throughout the night, adding to the atmosphere. But the rain didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits. Instead, it created a beautiful backdrop for the song, making the performance even more special. The crowd swayed together, unified by the music and the moment.
As the set continued, Tones delivered another powerful performance with “Wonderful.” Then she surprised us with a cover of Alphaville’s “Forever Young.” Now, we’ve all heard this song countless times before, but Tones brought something fresh to it. Her version felt both nostalgic and new, with a soulful twist that made it one of the best covers I’ve heard. The audience responded with enthusiasm, clearly moved by her interpretation.
It’s a big show
Throughout the night, Tones and I’s choir, dancers, and band created a mesmerizing show. Every song felt like a mini performance, complete with stunning visuals and lights that brought the music to life. The production quality was top-tier, with all the elements of a big stadium show condensed into the intimate setting of the Fremantle Arts Centre. The result was an immersive experience that made every person in the audience feel like they were part of something extraordinary.
Next up were tracks like “We’ll See Stars,” “You Don’t Know Me Like That,” “Dreaming,” “Won’t Sleep,” “Bad Child,” and “Ur So F**kinG cOoL.” The set flew by, with Tones and I keeping the energy high and the crowd engaged. It was impossible not to have fun. Everyone was on their feet, dancing, singing, and living in the moment. The entire venue pulsed with excitement. Tones shifted effortlessly between genres, proving her versatility and ability to keep her audience hooked.
A standout moment came when Tones and I introduced a bonus track, “I Made It,” which wasn’t originally part of the setlist. A fan had requested it, and Tones delivered. The song served as a powerful anthem of triumph and resilience, fitting perfectly with the show’s themes. It was a beautiful addition that resonated deeply with the audience.
Acoustic
Tones and I then slowed things down with an acoustic rendition of “Sorrento,” a heartfelt tribute that showcased her raw talent. The stripped-back performance allowed her vocals to shine, drawing everyone in. It was a tender moment that created an emotional connection between Tones and her fans. Following this, she performed another acoustic track, “Lose Someone Like Me,” which transitioned into the choir-only song “Lonely.” These quieter moments contrasted beautifully with the high-energy numbers, demonstrating Tones’ range as an artist.
The next part of the show included “I Am Free,” “Johnny Run Away,” and a stunning cover of Coldplay’s “Fix You.” Each song highlighted Tones and I’s ability to move seamlessly between different sounds and styles. “Johnny Run Away,” in particular, stood out with its catchy rhythm and poignant lyrics. If you haven’t heard it yet, it’s worth a listen. Tones poured emotion into every note, making each song feel deeply personal.
Medical Emergency
In the middle of the night, a medical emergency in the crowd interrupted the show during “The Kids Are Coming.” Tones and I handled the situation with grace and professionalism. She made sure the person received help while reassuring the rest of the audience. Her ability to keep calm under pressure and show compassion impressed everyone. Once the situation was under control, Tones and her band picked up right where they left off, as though nothing had happened. It was a testament to her poise and dedication to her fans.
As the night drew to a close, Tones and I couldn’t resist connecting with the crowd one last time. She expressed her gratitude, clearly touched by the love and energy pouring from the audience. Her down-to-earth personality and sense of humour shone through, making her feel relatable despite her superstar status. But all good things must end, and she reluctantly reminded us that the show was almost over.
The penultimate track, “Dance With Me,” set the stage for the grand finale—her mega-hit, “Dance Monkey.” The crowd exploded with excitement as soon as the song began. Everyone sang along, and the energy in the venue soared. It was the moment we had all been waiting for and Tones and I delivered it flawlessly. It felt like the perfect ending to an unforgettable night.
Or so we thought.
Just as people began to head for the exits, something unexpected happened. The screen on stage flickered to life, showing Tones and I on a TV screen, playfully apologizing for forgetting her favourite song. The crowd quickly turned around and rushed back, eager for one last encore. And then, as if by magic, the band launched into “Fly Away,” a perfect closer to a night full of surprises. The audience danced and sang along one final time, soaking in every last moment of the experience.
See You next time – Tones and I
Before the final goodbye, Tones and I introduced every member of her band, choir, and dance crew, acknowledging the talent and effort behind the scenes. It was a thoughtful touch that emphasized the collaborative nature of the show. As the night finally came to a close, we were all left with unforgettable memories.
